Ampleman

Trained at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Simon Ampleman is a choreographer and artistic mediator with a distinctive approach rooted in over 25 years of experience in animation. After working as a performer for several Montreal-based choreographers and on innovative projects with Moment Factory and C2M, Simon Ampleman developed a unique artistic approach for creating choreographic and participatory works (involving both dancers and non-dancers) in which the “human effect” (a reference to the “butterfly effect”) plays a central role.

Known for his in situ and stage choreographic creations, he has initiated dozens of large-scale projects since 2012, based on a unique approach to artistic mediation. These projects include Champ de silex et coquelicot, LieuX, vous êtes ici, Nos échos (Dieppe, France, 2017-2018-2022), and En ces lieux, ils danseront, a dance video work created in a hospital setting (CHUM, 2019) with patients suffering from chronic pain and professional dancers, which was broadcast on Télé-Québec’s La Fabrique culturelle.

He has also created numerous commissioned shows for major cultural institutions such as the Montreal Science Centre, the Montreal Botanical Garden, L’Agora de la danse, and L’ATSA. He has been welcomed into numerous creative residencies in the Greater Montreal area and throughout Quebec. His shows Piano public, Qui bougera, and Alexis continue their successful tours after captivating thousands of spectators in Quebec, Ontario, and France.

A prominent figure in artistic mediation within Quebec’s dance community, he has led numerous creative projects in collaboration with various cultural, educational, and political institutions. He also served as the spokesperson for the 2018 Accès Danse Festival and the 2019 Intercollegiate Dance Festival.
