Julian Rice
Julian Rice is a montreal-based multi-instrumentalist recording and performing artist. Raised as a Mohawk of Kahnawake, Julian also has ancestry with the Micmac nation of Gespeg.
Having worked as a musician and recording engineer for various local acts, Julian’s credits can be found at almost every step of music creation, including song writing, arranging, recording, mixing, mastering, live performance, studio performance and producing. He has worked in a similarly wide variety of genres including classic and modern rock, electronic music, ambient, singer songwriter, folk, classical music and psychedelic music.
Julian’s current work utilises the complete breadth of his musical experience, incorporating classically-trained violin with modern effects processing, live arrangement, live mixing, looping, synthesis, and sample manipulation techniques in order to create living multilayered soundscapes that can respond to the moment as effectively as any live instrument. Any distinction between musical performance and musical engineering is dissolved by Julian’s capability to control every thread within his sonic tapestries as he performs, at any stage of their inter-weaving.
Julian continues to work with other indigenous artists, Including Kizis Tibik and Ivanie Aubin-Malo.
