Daniela Carmona Sánchez is a Mexica performer born in México City (Tenochtitlán). She is interested in dance as an ancestral ritual; engaging in Feminism, Indigenous culture and Dance theater. Daniela graduated from the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance with Bachelor in Contemporary Dance from the National Institute of Fine Arts (2016). She received a scholarship from Limón Institute of New York to attend the Limón technique intensive workshop in Los Angeles, California (2015).

She worked with one of the most important companies in Mexico, Barro Rojo Arte Escénico, performing in national and international festivals around the Mexican Republic, Colombia, USA and Africa (2014-2018). She has also collaborated with choreographer Himangini Puri in the dance film Afterimage in New Delhi, India (2018). She began her career as a freelance dancer in Montréal, Canada in 2018, where she has collaborated with renowned choreographers such as Paco Ziel, Leticia Vera, Carlos Rivera, Kyra Jean Green, Barbara Diabo and Newton Moraes.

She was also part of Carmen by the Opéra de Montréal (2019) and the Festival Ceremony of death with CCOV performing her piece Histoire d’un amour also presented in Sherbrooke at the Festival de Danse servi au volant (2020).

As a Mexican dancer in Montreal she presents her own choreographies, in events celebrating the “Day of dead” such as La tilica (2019), Dia de muertos NDG, Nuit blanche with the Cultural institution of México in Montréal. Since 2019, Daniela has been working with the dance company A’nó:wara Dance Theatre directed by Barbara Diabo, originally from the Kanyen’kehà:ka Nation. Most recently, she is part of the Toronto based company Red Sky Performance directed by Sandra Laronde, originally from the Anishinaabe nation, performing Migiis: Underwater Panther.
