Annie
Gagnon
Choreographer, performer, and teacher, Annie Gagnon originally trained as an anthropologist. During her studies, she focused on issues of violence within populations, particularly through the lens of institutional control mechanisms and their impact on the members of the societies she studied. These same issues are now central to her artistic approach. Annie became involved in the dance community shortly after graduating from L’École de danse de Québec in 2009. Many of her works have been presented by La Rotonde (Cocoon, 2011 / Noire, 2014 / Élégie, 2021). A physical and authentic performer, she has danced with various choreographers from Quebec City and Montreal and has made several forays into physical theatre. In 2012, Annie founded her own company. She has been a guest choreographer at L’EDQ on several occasions (2013, 2017, 2021) and was one of the companies in residence at the Musée de la civilisation (exhibition Corps Rebelles, 2015). Eager to acquire new knowledge, Annie completed a training program in horticulture in 2019, from which emerged the artistic and civic project Modus vivendi (2022, 2023, 2024), combining tree planting and contemporary dance. She has also ventured into filmmaking, co-producing a feature film with La Rotonde and Les Violons du Roy (Élégie, 2021). Committed to sharing her knowledge, she has been teaching movement to teenagers in the Option Théâtre Études program at Cardinal-Roy since 2011. Increasingly, Annie seeks to integrate her diverse experiences as an anthropologist, choreographer, performer, filmmaker, and horticulturist. Her guiding principle is to express her perspective on the world and its challenges through the universal language of the body.
La Rotonde presents an annual program of dance performances in Quebec City. It features a wide range of artists who are shaping the artistic landscape. Check out the current program to discover upcoming artists.
